The recipient of the Young Player of The Tournament award got the most tackles in the Euros at 23 and made 122 passes and 1 assist from her midfield position. All this from a 20 year old is very impressive and she will be the future of this German team even though she won a less prestigious award, most yellow cards in the Euros, she had 4.
8. Leah Williamson -England
The captain of the winning side was able to lead them all the way to the final and through extra time to win the Euros. Leah Williamson’s leadership and defending did huge amounts to bring the trophy to England for the first time. She had the most balls recovered in the tournament and was the player in the Euros that played the most minutes. (Tied with England’s goalkeeper Mary Earps.) Leah Williamson became the first captain in the team’s 50 years to lead the English Women’s National Team to a major trophy.
7. Daphne van Domselaar -Netherlands
The only Goalkeeper on this list stepped up for her team, and despite not starting in the first match, Daphne van Domselaar played astonishingly well after the Netherlands starting goalkeeper was injured in the first game. The Dutch goalie made the most saves in the Euros of all the keepers with 23, which is very good, especially for a 22 year old. She will be able to show off her skills more in the future, as the previous Netherlands goalkeeper retired after the Euros.
6. Kosovare Asllani -Sweden
The highest ranked player on this list to not make it to the finals is Kosovare Asllani, she came in a three way tie for second most assists in the Euros (3), she also scored a goal from the penalty spot in a 5-0 win over Portugal in the group stage. She is the captain of Sweden’s national team, and she led them to the semi finals of the Euros with her amazing leadership, passing, and dribbling.
5. Keira Walsh -England
Another player in the three way tie for second most assists is Keira Walsh, she dished out an assist that gave England the early lead in the final against Germany. Walsh also played exceptional defense that got England to the Euro Finals and helped her team become the champions. This incredible player won player of the match in the finals with her plays that kept England in the game.
4. Millie Bright -England
Bright was the heart of England’s defense that conceded only 2 goals in the 6 games that the team played in. Bright was the best defender in the tournament, making 37 clearances, the most in the tournament, all 37 of which were vital to keeping the goals against England to a minimum.
3. Alessia Russo -England
Although never starting in a game, Alessia Russo was able to become the player with the third most goals in the 2022 Euros with 4. The English player scored what will without a doubt go down as the best goal in the tournament, a stunning back heel against Sweden in the semi finals.
2. Alex Popp -Germany
The German captain tied for the most goals scored in the competition, but she did not win the golden boot as she had less assists, although 6 goals is still an outstanding achievement in a tournament where the 2 finalists play only 6 matches. The German player was unable to play in the final of the Euros because she got injured in the warm up to the game where her team lost in extra time. But captaining a team to the Euro finals is an achievement in itself, whether or not the captain can play in the finals.
1. Beth Mead -England
Beth Mead won the Player of The Tournament and the Golden Boot (Award given to the player with the most goals), plus the forward lifted the trophy, and obtained the most assists with a combined 11 goals and assists.
