Greatest upset in Champions League history?

Writer's picture: EthanEthan

On Tuesday Sheriff Tiraspol put up 2 goals versus 1 from 13 time winners Real Madrid, in the Champions League.

For a little bit of background, Sheriff aren't even in first place in the Moldovan league, but that doesn't stop them from leading group D by three points in the champions league.

To talk about this game, you need to start by saying that the Sheriff goalkeeper, Giorgos Athanasiadis played as the best payer on the pitch and was rewarded with man of the match. The first goal came from a header by Sheriff, and team were pulling off a great upset until a terrible tackle in the box which gave Benzema a penalty kick and he did not fail to fire it into the back of the net. The score stayed at 1-1 until the 89th minute when Sheriff from right outside the box nailed a volley into the upper 90. The celebrations were wild. When the whistle

finally blew they had pulled off one of the greatest upsets ever.

Before we end I just wanna congratulate Sébastien Thill on scoring the winner and being the first player from Luxembourg to score in the Champions League. 👏

Next week we will talk about the biggest upsets in soccer! Will this make this list????
