Top 10 Teams In The World Right Now

After the 2021-2022 season has come to an end we can reflect to see which teams performed best. Here is the Soccer Alarm's rankings of the top 10 of the world's teams.

10. Palmeiras

The only team outside of Europe on this list won the Copa Libertadores and were Runners up in the Club World Cup, Campeonato Paulista, Supercopa do Brazil, and the Recopa Sudamericana. They ended the season at 3rd in the Brazilian Serie A.

9. Atletico Madrid

The Spanish team had a good season, although they had no silverware to show for it. They got 3rd in La Liga, and were narrowly beaten by Manchester City in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League. They also lost by 1 goal in the Supercopa de España semifinals.

8. AC Milan

The only Italian team on this list won Serie A and made it to the semi finals of the Coppa Italia. They would be higher on the list if they made it past the Champions League Group Stage.

7. Chelsea

Chelsea lost in penalties in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals and got eliminated in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League after a comeback by Real Madrid. The English club also finished 3rd in the Premier League. The highlight of their season was winning their first Club World Cup.

6. Barcelona

While they didn’t win any titles in 2021/2022 they ended second in La Liga and made it far in almost every other competition. With the strength of their team, they will win much more next season.

5. Paris Saint Germain

Although not doing well in every other competition, they were able to win Ligue 1, and they have one of the best attack forces in the world.

4. Liverpool

Liverpool were as close as any team has ever come to winning the English quadruple, they won the FA and Carabao Cups, but lost the Premier League by 1 point and they were beaten in the Champions League Final.

3. Bayern Munich

While the German side’s run in Europe was far from impressive, eliminated in the Quarter Finals, they won the DFB Pokal and the Bundesliga by 8 points.

2. Manchester City

Manchester City narrowly won the premier league, and made it to the semi finals of the FA Cup and Champions League, missing out on the finals by 1 goal in each competition.

1. Real Madrid

The Spanish club won the Supercopa de España, La Liga, and Champions League. If that isn’t the best team in the world right now, I don’t know what is.
