World Cup Qualifying

The World Cup is coming to Qatar in 2022. The first match will take place on November 21, 2022. So we need to get into world cup qualifying.

The qualifying process has been going on for a long time now and you may not understand it, so let's jump right into it. To start there will be 32 teams that will qualify for the World Cup in 2022, the first one being the host nation. It gets a little more complex from there though.

Europe-13 teams

South America- 4.5 teams

North America, Caribbean, and Central America (CONCACAF)- 3.5 teams

Africa- 5 teams

Asia (including Australia)- 4.5 teams

Oceania- 0.5 teams.

Host- 1 team

So Europe and Africa have guaranteed numbers with 13 and 5. In Asia, 4 teams qualify and then the 3rd place teams face off and the winning team of that goes to the intercontinental playoffs. In North America, Caribbean, and Central America there is a tournament between 8 teams and the top 3 finishers qualify for the World Cup, while the 4th place team goes to the intercontinental playoffs. In South America all the teams play each other and the top 4 teams make it to the World Cup, while the 5th place team makes it to the intercontinental playoffs. In Oceania, there are two groups that do a round robin and the top 2 teams from each round robin make it to a playoff and the winner of that makes it to the intercontinental playoffs.

In the intercontinental playoffs 1 team from Asia, CONCACAF, South America, and Oceania will face off to determine which two teams will progress.
